Cremorne Playgroup
Address
Cremorne Bowls Club, 10 Wisteria Avenue, Cremorne, Tasmania 7014
A friendly welcoming group for parents and carers. A great way to meet others, relax and have time for a morning tea break. Since our inception the playgroup has provided a great network of support and information.
WHEN & WHERE: 10am – 12 Noon, every school term Monday at the Cremorne Community and Bowls Club. Please note however, on the last Monday of the Month we usually have a local outing – often the Foreshore Tavern, FarOut! or Kitty World at the Eastern Shore Activity Centre. During the warmer daylight saving hour months we regularly meet at the local Cremorne Playground or sometimes lagoon. Join up to our email list to be informed.
CONTACT: To keep informed of activities etc., contact Jodie on 0434 499 730 (or home 6237 0720) or Bron on 0419 569 230. Members keep informed through our Google Group email list – so get in touch and ask to join up.
WHAT: We have a great outdoor sandpit, bikes, fantastic educational and fun play plus great weekly craft AND we have a communal morning tea.
COST: $2.50/family plus a piece of fruit to share.
WHAT ELSE?: For insurance purposes members are required to join up to Playgroup Tasmania. The membership form can be downloaded here (if out of date just change the year!). Cremorne Playgroup is a voluntary group which is owned and run by all who attend. We encourage participants to be active and help out on our roster of craft and open/closing duties (only a couple of times a year).
Cremorne Playgroup was established in 2009 through a Tasmanian Community Fund Grant. We also received much support from RACT, SAPRA and many local businesses and individuals. Thank you to all.

Description
Background /history of the group:
Cremorne Coastcare was reformed as Pipe Clay Coastcare in mid 2007 by a group of committed community members.
Since forming we have completed a number of projects in the area including:
- Revegetation of the park and surrounding dunes.
- Built a new track to the beach and fenced the dunes to encourage people to use the designated tracks.
- Designed and built a Coastcare Noticeboard.
- Employed Tasflora to write a Weed Management Plan for the Cremorne area.
- The Weed Management Plan has been used as a guide to control weeds.
- Revegetation work has been carried out in areas where weeds have been removed as well as various areas around Cremorne.
- In conjunction with Understorey Network we have grown our own native seedlings for planting.
- We have provided free plants to local residents.
- Assisted the Friends of Calverts Hill to plant 200 endangered Morrisbyi gumtrees.
- Annual Clean Up Australia Day
- On-going beach profile monitoring through the Tasmanian Shoreline Monitoring and ARChiving (TASMARC) project.
We have applied for and received a number of grants. These include:
- Landcare grants to cover administration and insurance. (approx $1200)
- Annual Clarence Council grants which have enabled us to purchase a weed and revegetation tool kit, complete an Aboriginal Heritage Survey and employ weed contractors amongst other things. (approx $15,000).
- Two Federal Government Caring for Our Country grants to employ Inspiring Places to write a Management Plan and to assist Friends of Calverts Hill in the protection of endangered Eucalyptus Morrisbyi. ($35,000).
- Two Tasmanian Landcare Association grants to follow up weed control of Calverts Hill and the Cremorne Coastal Reserve. ($28,000).
Upcoming projects include:
- Completion of a high tide access track at the mouth of Pipe Clay lagoon.
- Continuing control of serrated tussock on Calverts Hill.
- Further weeding and revegetation.
- Strategic planning for the next few years using the
Cremorne Foreshore Management Plan as a guide.
How often do you get together and how can I get involved?
The group usually meet every third Sunday of the month at 10am for between 1-2 hours. We are kid friendly and it's a great social occasion. There is no joining fee and you don't need to come regularly to make a valuable contribution. We also need help with tasks that don't involve your hands getting dirty (or that much) and can be done at anytime including: administration, grant writing, and promotion and awareness of coastcare activities. If there is something you would like us to help you with either on or near your property please don't hesitate to contact us.
Information about upcoming working bees is posted on the group's noticeboard located in the beach reserve park, and in the 'Events' of this Cremorne website. If you would like to join our mailing list you can contact Rachel Viney on 0458015183 or rachelviney@hotmail.com
